They are an experienced, compassionate, and supportive team that want your birth to be the best it can be!

About Midwives Nottawasaga

There is so much information about the benefits of midwife support, and at Midwives Nottawasaga, they are happy to share all that information with you step by step. When you hire a midwife at Midwives Nottawasaga, they spend individual one-on-one time with you during your pregnancy to help you prepare for labor and birth. They discuss learning options, preferences, interests, and concerns during childbirth and teach coping skills and comfort measures for delivery.

Services

Midwives are experts in normal childbirth and provide high-quality, evidence-based care throughout pregnancy, labor, and the first six weeks postpartum. Prenatal visits are often in their clinic, while the first two weeks of postpartum care are provided in your home. You will be assigned to a small team of midwives responsible for your care throughout pregnancy. This allows you to develop a relationship of trust with your midwives. A midwife from your team at Midwives Nottawasaga will attend your birth in the primary role and catch your baby, and a midwife from the other team will attend to care for the baby and assist your primary midwife. Clients can contact their team 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with urgent concerns.

Classes and Hospital Affiliation

Suppose you are unsure about the best place to have your birth. In that case, Midwives Nottawasaga hosts a Choice of Birthplace Information Night four times a year at their clinic, where midwives facilitate a small group discussion and answer home and hospital birth questions. If you plan to give birth in a hospital or at home, the Midwives Nottawasaga hold privileges at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital. They also have the equipment and skills to conduct deliveries out of the hospital, if that is your choice.

Comfort

Midwives Nottawasaga’s clients can access all pain medication options at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, which include nitrous oxide or “laughing gas,” narcotics such as Nubain, and epidurals. The midwives consult directly with anesthesiologists for epidurals, and for clients choosing home birth or home water birth, they can bring nitrous oxide. Whatever you decide, Midwives Nottawasaga will support you every step of the way.

Education and Support

In addition to midwifery care, Midwives Nottawasaga also has two board-certified lactation consultants on staff to assist any mom who needs lactation education and services. Midwives Nottawasaga also offers an ongoing zoom support meeting for moms in which each meeting goes into specific topics relating to which trimester you are currently in.
