Why an In Home Newborn Session May be Perfect for You

Right before Simcoe Muskoka went back into lockdown, I got the opportunity to photograph this lovely family in the comfort of their home. We celebrated the arrival of their wee babe with a simple In Home Newborn Session. So I thought I’d share why this type of session might just be perfect for you!

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ve probably seen me showcase two distinct styles of maternity and newborn images. I create both highly curated and posed studio galleries as well as un-posed and natural on-location photos.

I love both styles and recommend them equally to my clients based on their tastes and personalities. If you’ve been thinking about booking a newborn session but you’re hoping for something more natural looking and feeling, this post is for you!

Capture your babe just as they are

The best part of an In Home Newborn Session is that you get to capture your little one just as they are. No poses. No props. Just you and your new little BFF. We work with the available window light in your home and I edit your gallery in a natural manner. This ensures that the final images of your babe truly reflect how you saw them in those first couple of weeks at home.

Create your family’s story of place

This type of session is a great way to story tell about this incredibly special time in your family’s life! You and your children can look back on these images as the years roll on and remember exactly how things were. Your interactions in the place you call home are completely unique and (trust me) worth holding onto! Life moves quickly, but there’s nothing like having these mementos to transport you back to this beautiful time!

In Home Newborn Sessions are low contact

If you’ve been hesitant to book a newborn session because you’re nervous about having your brand new little one handled by a stranger, this session is the perfect choice for you. In contrast to my Posed Newborn Sessions in my Collingwood studio, In Home Newborn Sessions don’t require me to touch baby at all. While I can assist with some prompts and incorporate some (non-posey) poses, I operate completely at your level of comfort. If you prefer I don’t handle your baby that is absolutely fine!

Convenient

There’s hardly anything more convenient than having a session at home! Much like a midwife check in, an In Home Newborn Session doesn’t require you to leave the house. This is especially convenient after a Caesarean section, when your mobility may be at a deficit.

More images & more options

Because of the way I process an In Home Newborn sessions versus a Studio Newborn Session, I am able to offer you both a larger preview gallery and more images per package. The nature of this type of session allows me to take a greater variety and number of images (think not just baby but baby with all the members of the household), and offer this extra value to you as well through my collection options. You also have the option to add a Moving Portrait to your session with my higher tier collections – a truly intimate and nostalgic keepsake! Check out a clip from this session below.

When should I book a newborn sesion?

An In Home Newborn Session is truly a magical way to record the most important milestone in your family’s life!

The first few weeks after baby arrives can be exhausting. You’ll likely be drifting between night and day with short intervals of sleeping, feeding, and diaper changing. So make sure you book in your session before baby arrives!

It’s best if you book in your 2nd or early 3rd trimester to ensure availability. Both Studio and In Home Newborn sessions are available for families in Collingwood and the surrounding area including The Blue Mountains, Creemore, Stayner, Wasaga Beach, Thornbury, Nottawa, Meaford, Creemore, and Barrie.
